Founded in 2010, Flatlands Dance Theatre is a professional dance company based in Lubbock, TX. The non-profit creates pioneering and diverse dance for the West Texas region.
They often perform at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Texas Tech University Creative Movement Studio, Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, and other venues.
Ali Duffy is the artistic director of the dance company. Duffy is also an associate professor of dance at Texas Tech University.
Lubbock Lake National Historic Landmark is an archaeological dig and natural history preserve in North Lubbock. In 1936, city employees discovered signs of ancient people at the Lubbock Lake Landmark. Subsequent digs revealed Paleo-Indians artifacts, animal fossils, and historic objects.
The 336-acre site is free and open year around. If you’re lucky, you can catch current archaeological excavations while visiting! The preserve has trails and life-sized bronze statues of extinct animals such as the wooly mammoth and short-faced bear, which are great for family photo ops. The site is preserved and managed by the Museum of Texas Tech University.
