The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) is an arts center and nonprofit in Downtown Lubbock. The center’s Firehouse Theatre hosts concerts, dance, films, and plays. There are many classes at the center’s clay studio. The clay studio is the best in the region and has clay available for purchase.
The art center began in 1997 and moved to its current building in 2005. LHUCA wants the Lubbock community to support artists and help people discover and grow their own eye-catching creativity. Admission to the art center is free, and donations are welcome.
Located in Mackenzie Park, Prairie Dog Town is a protected prairie dog colony and visitor destination. You can see prairie dogs in their natural habitat of native grasses. Visitors will also be able to see burrowing owls. Prairie Dog Town is a popular tourist destination.
Prairie Dog Town was started circa 1930s by Mr. and Mrs. Clapp. The first residents of Prairie Dog Town were four black-tailed prairie dogs. The colony preserve was improved in 2005 with a viewing area, interpretive signage, new parking area, and ADA accessibility. Prairie Dog Town is free and publicly accessible.
South Plains Mall is a premier shopping center in Lubbock, TX with more than 110 stores. The mall is anchored by Beall’s, Dillard’s, and JCPenney. It has Lubbock’s only Premiere Cinema with IMAX Theater. South Plains Mall is less than two miles from The Park Apartments.
